How did you get into CrossFit?

In 2018, my wife, Amy, was invited to Bring a Friend Day. At that time, my brother, Trent, lived out of state. One of the coaches texted him that his sister-in-law was there for Bring a Friend Day, and his reply was to not let her out of the building until her and I were both signed up. We have been there ever since.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and been a CrossFit coach?

I have been doing CrossFit for 8 years and been coaching for about 9 months. I’m also a certified trainer through Scaled Nation that specializes in helping large-bodied athletes and mobility-challenged people be able to do CrossFit.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’m the older brother—people have often thought Trent was the older one. I also have had an artificial shoulder for almost 10 years.

Family Life

I’m married to my wife, Amy, with 3 kids and 4 dogs. Our kids ages are 27, 24, and 22, 2 boys and 1 girl. One of our sons does CrossFit with us regularly.

What is your biggest gym pet peeve?

When athletes blatantly sacrifice form and risk injury just to check the RX box.

If you could only do one CrossFit movement for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Back squat
