Is CrossFit High Bar the Right Fit for Me?
Have you ever thought, “CrossFit looks really intense. I don’t think I’m in shape enough to try it. Is this really for me?” The short answer is YES. Let us tell you why!
One of the most common misconceptions is that CrossFit is solely for elite athletes, but the truth is that CrossFit is not designed for elite athletes. It is designed for anyone who wants to improve their health, fitness, and overall quality of life. You might be a beginner stepping into a gym for the first time, a busy parent looking to gain more strength and energy for your kids, or a former athlete who wants to scratch that competitive itch. Regardless of your stage of life, CrossFit can be tailored to meet you exactly where you are.
What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is defined as “constantly varied, functional movement executed at a high intensity.” In other words, CrossFit-style training carries over into real life, and you perform functional movements such as:
Every workout is programmed to improve your overall fitness rather than hone in on one specific area.
The Secret: Everything is Scalable
A key aspect of CrossFit that tends to be overlooked is that every workout can be modified to an individual’s personal fitness level and goals. There are many videos circulating throughout social media of elite CrossFit athletes lifting heavy weights or performing high-skill gymnastics movements. Not as commonly seen are those same workouts and movements being completed by people of all different ages, sizes, and fitness levels using modifications specific to their experience and abilities.
The goal is not for all CrossFit athletes to do the same workout. The goal is for all CrossFit athletes to achieve the same stimulus, which is the intended mental and physical effect of a workout.
Why Scaling Actually Works
Scaling gives both beginners and experienced athletes the opportunity to train alongside each other while achieving the same benefits from a workout. Part of the coach’s job is to help determine the proper weight, modification, and intensity level for each individual athlete. This ensures new members can build confidence safely, experienced athletes can continue progressing, and all members receive a workout that matches their current fitness level.
More Than a Workout
You may or may not be surprised to find that the reason most people stay with CrossFit is not for the workouts. They stay for the community.
When you walk into a CrossFit gym, you might notice music playing, barbells hitting the floor, and people doing movements you have never seen before, but more than that, you will notice coaches and members who genuinely want you to succeed and improve. You will be encouraged during classes, celebrated when you hit milestones, and supported when you have limited motivation.
You don’t need to be “fit enough” to join CrossFit. You need a growth mindset. At CrossFit High Bar, we believe fitness should be accessible to anyone who wants to become a stronger and healthier version of themselves. Our coaches will help you learn, progress safely, and discover what you are capable of. So, if you find yourself questioning whether you are in the right place at a CrossFit gym, we promise, you are.
